Unexpected Théâtre

We invest in the artistic and societal growth of Ottawa by cultivating a space where emerging and established artists showcase their merit, evolve their craft, and create art in action that leads by example.

• Mandate: Unexpected Theatre produces bold culture-centric theatrical experiences that spark wonder, challenge perceptions and ignite empathic action.
• Vision: To be a high value, locally rooted rep theatre company, and transformative force across North America.
• Values
  • Brilliance. We strive for artistic excellence that surprises, inspires, and ignites. Through bold vision and informed risks, we aim to illuminate spaces where it’s least expected and most valuable.
  • Interconnectivity. We recognize that connection is the most innate human experience. So we cultivate cross-cultural exchange and uncover common ground through shared artistic and communal experiences, we disrupt barriers and seed lasting understanding that extends within and far beyond the arts.
  • Kind Grit. We lead with determination, fueled by compassion and mindful action. Our work encompasses rigorous growth for the betterment of our craft and community; knowing that growth comes from perseverance and intentional effort.
