    Canine Assisted Therapy, established in 2009, is a 501(c)3 organization which serves over 300,000 people in the South Florida community annually through certified pet therapy activities. Currently, 120 certified teams provide animal-assisted therapy to 92 different facilities, organizations, and schools in South Florida. Our programs encompass the varied needs of a diverse local population.

    Canine Assisted Therapy’s mission is to enhance the health and well-being of adults and children by achieving specific physical, cognitive, social, or emotional goals through the use of certified pet therapy teams.

    Impact

    Canine Assisted Therapy benefits the South Florida community by helping:

    Veterans suffering from PTSD, in nursing homes/hospice/hospitals/shelters

    Children with special needs, struggling with literacy skills, dealing with grief, testifying in dependency court, and coping in child welfare facilities

    Seniors isolated in nursing homes and dementia care centers

    Patients (pediatric and adult) in hospitals and under hospice care

    College Students under stress during exam weeks

    Women and children in domestic violence shelters

    Trauma victims and families
