    About Us

Joseph’s Coat was started by Joann Barrett (a member of Messiah Lutheran Church) in 1998 in their garage helping homeless families with clothing needs a place to stay overnight and a good meal. Homeless families shopped for clothing as they do now for clothing items. Later if they were able to get a residence, she thought they may need furniture and household items. That was the beginning of the ministry as we know it today.

The organization continued to grow and had several other smaller locations. The number of families needing clothing, household and furniture increased the need for more storage space for all the items. This facility was spacious enough to accommodate the need.

3 churches came together gathering donations of clothing, household items and furniture to provide help to the families in need. As the need for help kept growing, the organization grew, a Board formed, and the organizations became a 5013c organization.
