Mission: Rehabilitation – Conservation – Education

To protect Cameroonian wildlife by rehabilitating victims of the illegal wildlife trade and other injured, orphaned or displaced animals, improving the conservation of endangered species in the wild, inspiring people to connect with nature and improving local communities’ wellbeing.

    About Us

The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a unique partnership between the Government of Cameroon and the NGO Pandrillus Cameroon, established in 1993 as a rescue and rehabilitation centre for victims of the illegal bushmeat and pet trades.

The LWC is in Limbe (Southwest Cameroon) within the Cross-Sanaga region, a biodiversity hotspot with many endangered species of flora and fauna, including species unique to the area, such as the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes ellioti) and drill (Mandrillus leucophaeus).

Since 1993, the LWC has rescued and cared for thousands of animals, including critically endangered western lowland gorillas, endangered chimpanzees, and African grey parrots, as well as a variety of other wildlife species. We have a large population of drills, one of Africa’s rarest primates and only found within the Cross-Sanaga region (along the Southwest Cameroon-Nigeria border) and on the island of Bioko. There are estimated to be less than 4,000 mature adult drills left in the wild (IUCN, 2020).

LWC is funded and managed by Pandrillus Cameroon, in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF). Our projects use a multi-faceted approach, combining in-situ and ex-situ activities, including habitat protection, captive care, training, small-scale development schemes, education, and advocacy, aimed at promoting species and wildlife conservation. Collaboration is crucial, as we work with local and national governments, communities, traditional rulers, other international and local NGOs, zoos, advisory groups, and the private sector to achieve our goals.
