The Arshile Gorky Foundation

About Us

The Arshile Gorky Foundation was established in June 2005 to further the public's appreciation and understanding of the life and artistic achievements of Arshile Gorky. The Foundation is currently preparing a catalogue raisonné of the artist's paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. This work updates Jim M. Jordan and Robert Goldwater's The Paintings of Arshile Gorky: A Critical Catalogue (New York University Press, 1982) and bulids upon the research of the late Gorky drawings scholar Melvin P. Lader. The Foundation works with Museums, libraries, galleries, and auction houses to supplement and update the research of these scholars. In addition to the catalogue raisonné, the Foundation maintains an educational website that provides specialists and the general public with biographical information about the artist, examples of his work, and research resources such as exhibition and publication histories.
