  • About Us

Our mission is to help at-risk children and youth succeed in life.

The Child Center of NY was founded 1953 by a community of parents. Since then we have grown into a multi-service organization that transforms the lives of 18,000 children, youth, and families each year. Without us, most of them would face poverty, school failure, unstable communities, child abuse, and serious emotional problems without help or support.

We provide caring environments and a wide range of programs including early childhood education, individual and family counseling, substance abuse treatment, extended school-day programs, tutoring, recreation, and college career readiness to prepare our youth for jobs in the 21st century economy.

Families find us at clinics, schools, housing projects, and community centers primarily in Queens but also in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Our highly skilled staff is comprised of social workers, educators, psychiatrists, caseworkers, nurses, tutors, and youth workers who collectively speak 25 languages.

The Child Center is results-driven and passionately committed to helping children achieve their potential and grow up to lead healthy, productive lives. We believe this urgent work builds a stronger New York City and creates a brighter future for us all.
