About Us

Queer Theatre, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit theatre located in Kalamazoo, MI. Our principal program is Queer Theatre Kalamazoo (QTK), which harnesses the power of live theatre by producing a safe space for all audiences and promotes normalization of queer culture by providing inclusive Equality Entertainment. Relationships are created and maintained through mutual engagement as a cast or crew member, donor or volunteer - providing a safe space for discussion, education, empowerment and a chance for artists to emerge and grow.

Our mission is to empower queer voices, support emerging artists, and build community through the production of Equality Entertainment. To animate this mission each year, we produce 6-10 live theatre productions, workshops, and other events. These activities engage volunteers that represent the diversity of our community. Over the years we have grown under the fiscal sponsorship of our partner organizations; our volunteer base and audience have both grown with each year. We are now coming into our own as the only small theatre in Kalamazoo County dedicated to the marginalized voices of our LGBTQ community.

QTK has been producing Equality Entertainment since 2013. We received our non-profit status in the state of Michigan in 2015, and received our federal 501(c)3 status in 2018.
