Mission
The mission of the Lou Tate Foundation is to continue the legacy of founder Lou Tate, by educating students of all ages about the history of weaving and textile arts through diverse programs, residencies, and community partnerships and ensuring the preservation of our landmark cabins. The Foundation serves students of all ages and cultures who want to learn about the history and practice of weaving, textile, fiber, and folk arts.
About Us
The Little Loomhouse is an arts and culture center on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Louisville Landmark. The complex consists of three Victorian cabins. The first, called Esta, was built in 1870. This is the cabin in which the Happy Birthday song was sung for the very first time.
The Little Loomhouse has had the honor of hosting some very famous guests over the years including First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
In addition to hosting tours, school field trips, summer camps, and workshops onsite in the cabins for students of all ages, the Little Loomhouse also demonstrates and teaches weaving and other folk art at cultural, educational and art events throughout the state.
