Safe Haven Ministries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community supported, and volunteer powered ministry that has been serving the Charlevoix area for over a decade.
Our mission is to love and serve His people through building relationships so that others may see Him. We do this by providing a hot bi-weekly meal, a winter emergency men's shelter, summer feeding program for low income students, a school supply drive for all Charlevoix area students, and a random acts as needs are presented.
In the fall of 2011, a small group of people participated in a six week class titled, “Justice for the Poor by Jim Wallis”. This study asked them to dig deeper into the biblical vision that links poverty and justice. It taught them how to connect biblical faith with contemporary responses to poverty, both in their neighborhood and around the world. They were asked questions like "How can we learn from the poor?" and "What is our responsibility to care for the poor and to advocate for justice on their behalf?".
As part of that class, each individual was asked to financially give something up during the entirety of the study. At the end of their time together, they had pooled $2,300. These participants hearts were deeply touched and called into action. After careful consideration and prayer, this call to action lead to the formation of Safe Haven Ministry and shortly after the Free Breakfast Club began on March 24, 2013.
Since that day, Safe Haven Ministry has grown, expanded, and is continually finding ways to better serve the Charlevoix community. Currently, this ministry is comprised of a multi-faith community board of approximately 12 Christ followers and a multitude of volunteers across several ministries. All involved are committed and passionate about their mission to love and serve others. As a whole, everyone that is involved is continually looking to the future to see how we can meet needs and build relationships while demonstrating Christ’s love.
As of 2025, our ministries have grown to include the Free Breakfast Club, a winter emergency men's shelter, annual school supply drive, a summer feeding program for low income students, and random acts as they are presented.
