About Us

The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a rigorous, preprofessional, month-long training program in animation, film, music, theater, dance, writing, and visual arts for talented teen artists. CSSSA provides a supportive environment in which students learn and hone technical skills while exploring their unique artistic voice. CSSSA's purpose is to provide access to elite arts education and provide a pipeline of diverse, creative talent for the arts and entertainment industries in California. The program is residential and students live and study on a college campus. Full financial aid scholarships are available as needed.

For over 35 years, CSSSA has been recruiting and supporting generations of creators like Edgar Arceneaux, Zac Efron, Martine Syms, Amandla Stenberg, Alex Hirsch, Lindsey Olivares, Katharine McPhee, and more. The California State Summer School for the Arts is a state agency funded through a unique public-private partnership. To support CSSSA, visit the CSSSA Foundation.
