Founded in 1970 by Russell Means (Lakota) and Dennis Banks (Ojibwa), Cleveland AIM serves indigenous communities throughout Ohio. In our mission of self-determination and national liberation for indigenous people we actively promote and encourage indigenous sovereignty, spirituality, solidarity, and sobriety.
Since 1970 Cleveland AIM has been active in the fight to end exploitative and demeaning sports mascots and team names in professional sports. Our community has also been active throughout Ohio in leading the charge to rid Ohio school systems of racist and dehumanizing sports mascots.
