About Us

The National Center for Health Research (formerly the National Research Center for Women and Families) promotes the health and well-being of women and families, by using objective, research-based information to encourage new, more effective programs and policies. The Center achieves its mission by "getting the word out" about research information that has important implications for the health, safety, and general well-being of women and families. We gather and analyze existing information and translate that information into clearly presented facts and policy implications that are made widely available to the public, the media, and policy makers. We are located in Washington, DC and most of our work is aimed at improving programs and policies at the national level. The Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund is one of the NCHR's major programs. Designated as one of America's best charities, it helps adults and children reduce their risk of getting all types of cancer and assists them in choosing the safest and most effective treatments.
