Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area

  • About Us

Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1973, affiliated with Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts. Our mission is to promote and foster increased literacy in the Montachusett area through trained volunteer tutoring and to empower adults for whom English is a second language. We provide free, confidential, and individualized tutoring in basic literacy and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) to adults and out-of-school youths over the age of 16 through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors. Literacy Volunteers recruits, screens, interviews, assesses and places students on a waiting list until matched with a volunteer tutor. The waiting list often is 30-40 people.
