  • About Us

Belle Grove, Inc. preserves Belle Grove Plantation and Fort Bowman through stewardship and education. Belle Grove is a 283-acre historic site in Frederick County, VA, listed on the Virginia and National Registers of Historic Landmarks. Belle Grove Plantation was the home of Major Isaac Hite, Jr. (1758-1836) and his wife, Nelly Conway Madison Hite (1760-1802), sister of President James Madison. Nearby Fort Bowman was another Hite family home. Belle Grove has 14,000 visitors a year from around the region, country, and globe. We also serve the local community with school programs and festivals that highlight regional agriculture and businesses.
