The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Orange/Athol is to promote literacy skills that empower adults to realize their educational, vocational and personal goals.
Since 1975, Literacy Volunteers of Orange/Athol (LVOA) has provided free, confidential and individualized tutoring in basic literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults in North Quabbin communities through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors. LVOA's individualized tutoring focuses on the student's skills, goals, interests and learning styles.
Through the use of dedicated and well-trained volunteer tutors, LVOA is able to help. The one-to-one relationship between the tutor and student is a working partnership and the encouragement that a tutor provides is critical to student success.
LVOA is supported by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Athol Area United Way and the generosity of area businesses and individuals.
