About Us

Description: For 30 years, Harlem Stage’s unique focus has been to identify visionary artists of color and support them by commissioning, presenting – and increasingly in recent years – producing their vital work that responds to the social and political conditions that shape our lives. Harlem has been a valuable resource for New York City, presenting a dynamic variety of programs in music, dance, film, theater, and arts education programs which are rooted in and reflect the rich and diverse traditions of the Harlem community. This work has positioned Harlem Stage as a leader in the field, ensuring a diversity of voices in the arts. In 2006, Harlem Stage opened The Gatehouse, a newly restored NYC landmark building, expanding and enhancing its commitment to innovative programming and the Harlem community.
