About Us

Mount Sinai’s Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine was established in 1982 as the first department of geriatrics at an American medical school. Our peers have singled out Mount Sinai's Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine faculty for many honors. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-2014 “Best Hospitals” issue, we are ranked the #4 geriatrics specialty service in the nation. In addition, U.S. News & World Report also ranked our geriatrics training program #1 in the 2013-2014 “Best Graduate Schools” issue. An internationally recognized leader in the field of geriatrics and palliative medicine, the Mount Sinai Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine is home to a number of important research initiatives.
