Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC
CIS of NYC was funded in 1999 and since then has made a large impact in its community. Inspired by the life of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, patroness of immigrants, Cabrini Immigrant Services of New York City (CIS-NYC) is committed to empowering immigrants, their families and their communities through education, participation and essential services. We strive to create positive change by fostering justice, dignity and respect.
CIS of NYC provides a wide range of services for their community, including the largest food pantry in the Lower East Side, legal and social services, ESOL classes and advocates for the DREAM Act and Immigration Reform with its Justice for Immigrants (JFI) group.
Cabrini Immigrant Services is committed to:
- Supporting immigrant families facing isolation because of language, legal status, and separation from family and home country.
- Working with school age students of immigrant families to access available opportunities, improve student achievement and encourage parental involvement in the educational process.
- Teaming with local resources to provide services and support through community partnerships, health care and social services referrals, screenings and preventative care, job skills assistance, advocacy, empowerment, enculturation, parenting and life skills programs.
