About Us

The Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) Center (www.gracegorillas.org) is a 501(c)(3) U.S. nonprofit based in Maine that partners with a Congolese-run non-governmental organization in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support the world’s only sanctuary for critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas as well as conservation programs targeting education and livelihoods of Congolese communities. Founded in 2009, our mission is to provide excellent care for rescued Grauer’s gorillas and work alongside local communities to promote the conservation of wild gorillas and their habitat. GRACE has a very small U.S. staff that runs the nonprofit as well as a network of expert volunteers and consultants who help build capacity in the Congolese team, and advise and lead programs.
