College Summit-National Capital Region
415 Michigan Ave
Founded in 1993, College Summit is a national non-profit organization with a mission to transform the college admissions process and increase the college enrollment rate of low-income students. Today’s college admissions system leaves behind a key portion of America’s talent: low-income, academically mid-tier students. Working in partnership with the critical players in the college-access challenge – students, parents, high schools, and colleges – College Summit enables all these players to accomplish what none can do alone: ensure that the community harnesses the talent of all college-capable students.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION College Summit has its roots in the National Capital Region. In 1993, J.B. Schramm, co-founder and CEO, directed a teen center in the basement of a Washington, DC housing project. There he came into contact with smart, curious, and determined young people who did not see college as an option. Recognizing a critical public sector and market failure, J.B. founded College Summit to address this gap.
Currently, College Summit has growing operations in ten regions of the country. During the 2010-11 school year, over 3,000 9th-12th grade students at 22 high schools in the National Capital Region (DC, MD, VA) will benefit from College Summit’s curriculum.
