Enroot aims to bring people together over shared meals, and foster connection and understanding across differences. In a world increasingly divided, we cultivate belonging and meaningful dialogue through the simple yet powerful act of breaking bread.
Enroot is a nonprofit that uses shared meals and storytelling to build belonging across cultures. We host community dinners, collect “first bite” food stories at festivals, and run international retreats — with retreat revenue helping fund our accessible community gatherings. Enroot is where food becomes a bridge, and storytelling becomes a tool for healing in divided times.
💛 WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
We are living through a global crisis of loneliness, polarization, and cultural disconnect. Food slows us down, softens our edges, and opens the door to honest connection. Enroot helps people root into their own stories while reaching across difference: one meal, one story, one relationship at a time.
📣 PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE
✨ WHO WE ARE
Enroot is a nonprofit that brings people together across cultures, identities, and generations through shared meals and storytelling. In a time of growing isolation, polarization, and disconnection, Enroot uses something universal: food, to remind us of our common humanity.
🍽️ OUR THREE INTERCONNECTED PILLARS
Enroot hosts no-cost or low-cost community dinners where people slow down, share a meal, and connect across differences. Using culturally grounded conversation prompts and storytelling tools, we create spaces where belonging is not just talked about, but felt.
Impact:
2.Storytelling & Narrative Power (Amplification Layer)
We gather stories at community dinners, food festivals, and markets through our “First Bite” project — quick, accessible interviews about the foods that shaped people. These stories feed into our Nom Nom podcast and multimedia storytelling campaigns.
Purpose:
3.Retreats & Immersive Learning (Revenue Engine)
Enroot hosts and partners on belonging retreats in places like Nicaragua, Morocco, Cape Cod, Telluride, Sierra Leone, and Baja. These retreats use food, culture, and reflective practices to deepen connection and self-understanding.
Sustainability Model: Revenue from retreats and corporate partnerships directly funds our community dinners, ensuring that Enroot can offer accessible gatherings at little or no cost.
