Read Alliance

Read Alliance is a non-profit organization that serves at risk kindergarten and first graders by recruiting and training teens to provide structured one-to-one tutoring in reading. Since 2000, Read Alliance has helped more than 8,750 at-risk first grade and kindergarten children achieve the foundation of literacy skills critical to their future success. At the same time, Read Alliance has recruited and trained more than 6,300 teens, and has helped them develop essential college, career, and life skills as Read Alliance tutors.

Read Alliance works with parochial, public and charter schools and community organizations across New York City. We recruit and train more than 1,000 teens to serve approximately 1,500 students in our School Year and Summer Reading Programs. We are currently in the process of expanding our activities to replicate our program nationally.
