Summary
Sight for Life supports a mission in St. Vincent and the Grenadines first established in 1980 by Dr. Sam Massey, an ENT specialist from Mississippi. For over 40 years, eyecare specialists and volunteers have participated in clinical examinations, surgical care and glasses distribution efforts. Since 2001, the mission in St. Vincent has been a passion project of Drs. Cathleen McCabe and Eric Purdy who, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, provide approximately 800 clinical exams, distribute approximately 600 pairs of glasses, and perform close to 100 sight saving surgeries yearly. In January 2020, Dr. McCabe purchased the former clinic and surgical building of Sir Dr. Cecil Cyrus, a pioneering general surgeon on the island. The facility is currently being remodeled and transformed into a world class clinic and surgical facility as well as a training and educational center for local specialists.
