Communities Promoting Animal Welfare NJ (CPAW NJ) is dedicated to keeping cats out of shelters by controlling the outdoor cat population. We dream of a world in which cats don’t need to be rescued.
CPAW NJ is a volunteer-driven organization that seeks to humanely reduce the community cat population through trap-neuter-return in Essex County, New Jersey. Our volunteers trap at least 10 cats per week, transport them to and from spay/neuter clinics, and hold and recover the cats after surgery. We also host community cat workshops to increase awareness and promote best practices for caregivers. CPAW NJ has helped over 3,800 cats through TNR since 2017. CPAW NJ partners with the local high quality low cost spay neuter clinics People for Animals and Preventive Paws. CPAW NJ has been able to increase our numbers and we have already neutered over 400 cats so far this year. Rather than having a formal foster and adoption program, we partner with local rescues and shelters for friendly cats and kittens to find homes whenever possible. CPAW NJ’s primary goal and focus is to help control the outdoor cat population through spay/neuter.
