Rising Rays Boarding School

About Us

RRBS is a small school (approximately 400 students) located in Kathmandu, Nepal serving the needs of children of mostly immigrant workers. Our mission is to return to the roots of the Montessori educational system that began by helping the most deprived and needy of children. In Nepal, Montessori education has been exploited to attract students who can pay higher fees to schools that are 'Montessori' in name only. We hope to change that situation in a small way. Our school should be considered a non-profit organization as all fees collected are reinvested in further development of education in Nepal. Our school's director and founder is the present treasurer of the National Private Boarding Schools Association Nepal. Through his membership in this association we are beginning training programs for other teachers.

The school would like to welcome foreign volunteers who can help us modernize the outlook of our teachers and staff. We have plans to grow into a genuine Montessori school over the next several years, beginning with our preschool that has approximately 100 registered students. Our volunteer vice-principal is an American expat who first involved himself with the school twenty years ago and who has returned to help us out after spending the last ten years working in China, Thailand, Taiwan and Mongolia. He worked for the past four years in a Chinese kindergarten in the capital of Sichuan Province -- Chengdu. Visitors with experience in education, and especially in the Montessori field, are invited to help us out -- whether it be as a volunteer, advisor, social networker, supporter, or friend.
