At the Old Baldy Foundation, we are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich maritime heritage of our region through the stewardship of Old Baldy Lighthouse and the Smith Island Museum of History. Our mission is to promote and preserve Old Baldy Lighthouse and interpret the history of Bald Head Island and the Lower Cape Fear River for cultural and educational purposes. We aim to maintain these historic landmarks, educate the public about their significance, and foster a deep appreciation for our coastal heritage.
The Old Baldy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established for the preservation of Old Baldy Lighthouse on Bald Head Island, NC, and for the promotion of and education about the man-made histories of Smith Island. Dedicated to serving the public good, the Foundation focuses on historical education, preservation efforts, and cultural enrichment through educational programs, community outreach, and meticulous stewardship.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our foundation. We offer a variety of opportunities to get involved, each designed to accommodate different interests and schedules. Help us manage our charming gift shop, get involved in our exciting events and programs, or help us bring the magic of Bald Head Island to fourth graders across NC through our Lighthouse Learners field trip program.
