About Us

United Power for Action and Justice is an independent, non-partisan, self-funding organization of churches, synagogues, mosques, civic, neighborhood, health, and ethnic institutions from across Cook County. These institutions of civil society have joined together to fight for social justice and the common good on issues of shared concern. Founded in 1997, United Power is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), the oldest and largest network of community organizations in the country.

United Power’s accomplishes its mission by:

• Building relationships within and among our member institutions and bringing together the diversity of Cook County; • Winning victories with real impact on the lives of its members institutions and others in Illinois; • Developing leaders from all walks of life to play a role in the public life of their own communities, in metro Chicago and statewide, and on a national level where possible and appropriate; • Renewing our member congregations and institutions using the tools and skills of community organizing.
