About Us

Formed in Washington, DC in January 1982, the Council for Court Excellence is a local nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization that works to improve the administration of justice in the local and federal courts and related agencies in the Washington metropolitan area. The Council accomplishes this goal by promoting court reforms, improving public access to justice, and increasing public understanding and support of our justice system. The Council is governed by a volunteer Board composed of members of the legal, business, civic, and judicial communities. It is unique in bringing together all of those communities to work in common purpose on court-reform and access to justice needs. The Council's 30-year record of success is substantial, spanning trial and grand jury system reform, child neglect and abuse system reform, improving criminal case processing from arrest through sentencing, administrative adjudication system reform, probate simplification, and streamlining resolution of civil disputes.
