Core values
High quality - We strive for the highest standards in everything we do, individually and organizationally.
Founded in January 1994 by Cathy Doyle and continuing under Artistic Director Karyn Silva since 2011, the Peninsula Girls Chorus has evolved into a premiere arts education and performance organization, serving 250 girls from over 80 bay area schools. In addition to a vast array of musical and performance skills, girls learn and practice our values of excellence, commitment, confidence, empowerment, artistic expression, joy and collaboration.
The PGC has garnered a reputation for varied and unique programming for young women. PGC singers strive toward a high level of musicianship paired with sensitive and authenticinterpretations of music from a variety of genres and voices. The choir has a long history of commissioning new works with renowned choral composers such as Mary Lynn Lightfoot, Kevin Memley, Sarah Quartel and Andrea Ramsey. PGC was the recipient of the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming in Contemporary Music in 2008.
In our quest to become global citizens, the PGC performs both locally and abroad. In addition to performances throughout the bay area community, the choir has performed in US venues from Seattle to New York City and international locations like Sydney, London, Milan and New Zealand.
