Detroit Cristo Rey High School Planning Committee

Detroit, MI

  • About Us

The Detroit Catholic High School (DCHS) Planning Committee, which grew out of grassroots concern for quality education of Detroit youth, will open a new coed Catholic high school in the city. This school will provide an opportunity for economically disadvantaged high school students to receive a high quality, faith-based, college-preparatory education. The school will be a Cristo Rey model high school, with every student working one day a week in an entry-level clerical position of a local business. Besides earning (when the school is at full capacity) 70% of the cost of their education, the jobs will also give the students an opportunity to discover what is required to be successful in a professional environment. (For information on the Cristo Rey model schools, see www.cristoreynetwork.net.)
