Humane Society of McCormick County, Inc
The Humane Society of McCormick County is a private, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue in South Carolina. We are staffed entirely by volunteers who raise every cent of our operating capital ourselves. McCormick County does not allocate any money for a shelter or for an animal control officer. We are all our county has for any help with animals.
We approach this problem through our "No more litters... fix your critters" low cost spay/neuter program. We altered a total of 402 dogs and cats in 2016! (125 McCormick County owned dogs and cats free of charge to those who qualified for it, 136 HSMC rescues, and 141 trap-neuter/spay-release.)
South Carolina awarded the HSMC the prestigious Angel Award because the HSMC devotes over 95% of its expenditures to its programs. The HSMC has no paid staff and relies solely on the generosity and hard work of its volunteers and supporters. It receives no financial support from any government organizations.
Our main goals include: prevention of cruelty to animals, providing shelter and care for lost and unwanted animals, educational programs and services that promote responsible pet ownership, educating the public of the importance of animal population control, and ultimately placing animals in humane and loving homes.
