About Us

Founded in 2007, the Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the eradication of sex slavery and the empowerment of its survivors as a part of the solution. An estimated 20 million people are currently enslaved around the world in this multibillion dollar underground industry. Somaly Mam, Cambodian survivor of sex slavery, has aided tens of thousands of women and children in knowing their rights and escaping their plight, and has been recognized as a CNN Hero, one of the TIME 100, and as a global leader for her work.

The Foundation's multilateral approach supports the rescue and recovery, education and training, reintegration and empowerment of women and girls who have been exploited and abused by traffickers and oppressors in Southeast Asia’s sex trade. In SMF’s Voices For Change program, survivors are trained as next-generation advocates and activists, paving the way for long-term social change. SMF's awareness and advocacy campaigns shed light on the crime of human trafficking and involve governments, companies, and individuals worldwide in conversation and action.
