Jeannette Rankin Peace Center

The Jeanette Rankin Peace Center (JRPC) was established in 1986 to provide Missoula, Montana with a permanent place for the dialogue, reflection and action needed to understand our world and work toward non-violence, social justice, and environmental sustainablilty. The Peace Center is a community resource where these values come alive through reflection, dialogue, inclusion, consensus, and collaborative relationships. JRPC maintiains a Fair Trade store to educate consumers about social, economic and environmental principles of Fair Trade. JRPC also serves as a resource for community classes and forums, film series, resource library with over 3,000 books, videos and audio tapes, making peace visible at Missoula's Community Peace Park, and maintaining a weekly e-newsletter and calendar of events related to social justice, environmental sustainability, non-violence and peace. JRPC is named after the first woman elected to the United States Congress, Missoula native Jeanette Rankin, who served two terms, 1914-1916, and 1942-1944, and is the only congressperson to vote against U.S. entry into both the First and Second World War.
