Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
The Wish Experience:
For the many eligible children we serve throughout our community, the Make-A-Wish experience begins with a simple question: “If you could have one wish, what would it be?” Each wish reflects the unique flair and individuality of each of our extraordinary wish children--a child may wish to meet his or her favorite celebrity, to have a vibrant bedroom makeover, or to visit Mickey and Minnie at Disney World.
Our children are the shining stars of every step of their wish adventures--they describe, plan, anticipate, and ultimately accomplish their wishes. As a result, wish children are empowered by the wish experience, able to envision optimistic futures for themselves, and re-energized to face their treatments. The wish experience also provides a much-needed respite to families during a challenging time.
Who We Serve:
To qualify for a wish, a child must be between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 and be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Each year, approximately 400 children in our state are newly diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.
Chapter History and Information:
The Boston Office of the Massachusetts Chapter was founded in 1984 and serves children residing in Eastern Massachusetts. In September 2002, we became a statewide organization, expanding our service area from Greater Boston to all of Massachusetts. Our West Springfield Office serves children residing in Western and Central Massachusetts. We are a community-driven organization, tapping into a broad constellation of support from our volunteers and donors throughout Massachusetts to best serve our wish children and their families.
Since 1987, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts has fulfilled over 3,000 magical wishes for our extraordinary wish children throughout the state.
Our ultimate goal is to fulfill the wishes of every medically eligible child in Massachusetts.
