Winnekenni Foundation, Inc.
The Foundation’s purpose is to promote the arts and sciences. This is primarily accomplished via programming and presentations that are open to the public (often free of charge, or low very cost). In addition to making events available at the Castle to those across the region, the Board bears the responsibility of preserving history by maintaining not only the Castle but five other buildings structures located at the upper Winnekenni property –Caretakers Cottage, Barn and three smaller outbuildings which are used for storage /recreation. As these antique buildings continue to age, more and more income is needed every year to keep pace with repairs. Ideally we need even more funding in order to achieve long overdue improvements to the buildings and enhancements to the grounds, such as completion of a picnic area, parking areas, expanded gardens as well as accomplishing the repair & transformation of the Barn into multipurpose theatre/activity space complete with a café and gift shop! The Castle itself is in need of added storage, new restrooms, a kitchen expansion, a new HVAC system, new flooring and near complete re-pointing of the masonry both inside and out. These goals are challenging to say the least, particularly at this difficult financial time. It is a step by step process. To these ends, we ask the public to support our efforts through Membership donations, event sponsorships and also by attending Castle events. Additionally, the Castle generates some income by making it available for private rentals. As we move forward, particular focus must now be paid to the establishment endowments and identifying grant sources in order to secure funding for rehab., renovations, improvements and growth.
