Legal Services NYC
Legal Services NYC, the largest civil legal services organization in the United States, provides free legal assistance to over 20,000 low-income people each year. Legal Services NYC’s staff of over 350 people provide services through 17 offices located throughout New York City. The Legal Services NYC programs and offices provide high quality legal assistance in our core practice areas of family, housing, benefits, consumer, and education law; and we respond to legal needs which may be particular to a group of people, a neighborhood, or a period of time, through a network of Legal Services NYC units and community based legal services organizations located in low-income communities and transportation hubs throughout New York City. We have special projects for the elderly, people with physical and mental disabilities, victims of domestic violence and people with HIV. We represent our clients in courts and administrative tribunals; provide advice or referral when we are unable to provide representation, and provide community legal education through community workshops, hotlines and written materials. Funding for our work comes from the federal Legal Services Corporation, a combination of city, state and other federal contracts, foundation grants, and private donations.
