About Us

Rohingya Culture Center is a small community based organization serving over 500 Rohingya refugee families. This community isparticularly vulnerable. Their native languages are rare: Rohingya which is unwritten, Burmese and Malay. They lost their right to an education when they were stripped of their citizenship in 1982. Most community members are preliterate which makes learning English particularly challenging. All of our people are living on the edge of poverty.

RCC opened its doors in 2016. We provide case management in languages they understand, financial emergency funding through our Zakat donations, and education classes specifically designed for the preliterate. We also have Quran class for children 5-12 and provide homework help. The assistance we give makes it possible for our families to plan for a better future.

RCC is the center of the Rohingya village in Chicago. It is where Rohingya culture is celebrated. The RCC is nationally known for its social activism on behalf of their people around the world. We raise a collective voice against the genocide of Rohingya people being waged by the Burmese military.
