Gender Diversity

Gender Diversity is a nonprofit organization that works to increase the awareness and understanding of the wide range of gender variations in children, adolescents, and adults by providing family support, building community, increasing societal awareness, and improving the well-being for people of all gender identities and expressions.

We accomplish this mission in several ways.

Family Support Groups: Every week, we host gatherings around the Seattle metropolitan area. Parents of transgender and gender-diverse kids/teens/adults gather to learn, talk, laugh, and share insights on caring for, supporting, and raising their kids. The parent discussions are facilitated by trained parent volunteers. Concurrently, trans and gender-diverse youth meet in a separate room for facilitated discussions and age-appropriate activities designed just for them. Siblings are welcome.

Transfamilies.org is our new online community for parents of transgender/nonbinary/gender-diverse children. The members-only website hosts message boards, resources, and video support groups - including a Dad's group and a Spanish-English bilingual group.

Gender Odyssey: Gender Odyssey is an international conference focused on the needs and interests of transgender and gender diverse children of all ages, their families and supporters, and the professionals who serve them. The conference is packed with thought-provoking workshops, including medical information and consultation opportunities, professional education, discussion groups, networking, children and youth programming, and social events. This one-of-a-kind annual gathering attracts people from all over the world for an uplifting weekend of connection, support, and community.

Training & Education: Inclusion and diversity are qualities that businesses strive for, yet where is the road map when it comes to a gender-transitioning employee? How do you respectfully engage with a customer or client when you can’t tell whether they are male or female? What does it mean to have a nonbinary gender? These are some of the questions in a quickly changing, gender-expanding society. Gender Diversity has successfully guided many workplaces through a landscape that is both new and sometimes intimidating.
