Livingston County Habitat for Humanity

Livonia, NY

About Us

Livingston County Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate substandard housing from our community. With a volunteer workforce, we build simple, decent homes for families in need. The homeowner is given a no-interest 30 year mortgage to pay for the materials. All of the labor is donated by volunteers. The homeowner is required to work 350 hours on the construction of their home. We use volunteers in the construction of the homes, as well as in our committees and administrative staff. The mortgage payments come to around $400 a month, which is generally less then what the homeowner was paying to rent. The benefits of a Habitat home extend beyond the actual structure itself. Homeownership provides the base to ground a families finances. It also gives children a safe, constant place to do schoolwork. Most importantly, it gives the family hope, hope that they can escape from the grind of poverty and become financially secure.
