  • About Us

L.A. Kitchen will offer innovative programs that work to ensure neither food nor people ever go to waste. We will partner with California farmers to secure surplus fruits and vegetables that our kitchen will process to make fresh, nutritious meals tailored to the needs of our community’s most vulnerable populations. L.A. Kitchen’s rigorous job training program will prepare unemployed individuals, particularly youth aging out of the foster care system and older adults exiting the prison system, for careers in the culinary industry. The meals prepared by our staff, students, and volunteers will be distributed to area social service agencies, concentrating on programs that support our aging population.

Founded by renowned nonprofit leader Robert Egger, L.A. Kitchen will build on the established models of his acclaimed creations, DC Central Kitchen and The Campus Kitchens Project, while adding special emphases on fresh produce and Los Angeles’ unique challenges. AARP Foundation, our founding partner, has made a $1 million pledge of support, and we are currently building relationships with like-minded community organizations.
