Service Stars was started in 2018 by local public school teachers who wanted to bring quality service-learning opportunities to young children. We started by offering a 2-week summer camp where campers were doing a hands-on service project each day and learning about their impact on a community issue. We have expanded to offer vacation day programming, weekend events, and more summer camp sessions. Our growth has been in response to a lack of accessible community service experiences for young children who fall below the age range required by most organizations to volunteer. As such, parents are responsible for creating these opportunities for their kids which can be challenging, time-consuming, and difficult to do in an engaging way. Our program combines quality teaching with age-appropriate service activities that really help children understand the impact they can have on their community. We believe that these experiences can be life-changing and can develop a life-long commitment to service for our next generation.
