About Us

Curtis Harris Sr., is a progressive candidate who will become the next NYC Council Member of the 35th Council District in Brooklyn, NY representing Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, and Bedford Stuyvesant.

Curtis was born in Brownsville Brooklyn, he has lived in Clinton Hill in the early 1980s, his family is originally from Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, and now he resides in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Curtis is a Corporate Supervising Accountant with more than forty years experience. Curtis was a Member of Community Board # 8, (2012-2018), where he served on the Housing & Land Use Committee, the Police & Public Safety Committee, the Youth, and Seniors Committees.

Curtis holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Medgar Evers College CUNY, in Brooklyn, NY., where he was elected President of the National Association of Black Accountants. Curtis also holds a Masters degree of Public Administration from Bernard Baruch College.

Curtis is also currently the Executive Director of Green Earth Poets Cafe, a 501 C 3 Not-For-Profit Corporation which was established in 2013. Their mission is to help people find their voice using poetry and theater performing, as well as increase literacy in at-risk youth. Many youth in Crown Heights, Brownsville, and Bedford Stuyvesant's public schools are reading below grade level. Green Earth Poets Cafe provides free literacy workshops, poetry slams, and opportunities and stage for many of these students, performance artists, poets and spoken word artists,
