Charleston Promise Neighborhood
Charleston Promise Neighborhood (CPN) is a nonprofit organization incorporated in May 2010. Our mission and purpose is to transform the “Neighborhood” within a generation. Our mission is “to ensure the Neighborhood is a place where residents are engaged in their community and every child is on track to graduate high school with the abilities necessary to succeed in college, the military or the workforce.”
The CPN “Neighborhood” is a 5.6 square mile area of Charleston County that coincides with the attendance zones of four tough CCSD elementary schools with high concentrations of children living in poverty: Chicora, Mary Ford, Sanders-Clyde and James Simons. According to the South Carolina Department of Education, the ~1,700 children attending these schools experience the following high levels of poverty indices: Chicora (95.65), James Simons (71.26), Mary Ford (96.67), and Sanders-Clyde (95.22).
CPN, through donations and grants, is providing our elementary schools with a flexible and comprehensive infusion of resources based on unique school-based assets and needs.
