About Us

Jefferson Land Trust (JLT), based in Port Townsend, Washington, was founded in 1989 by local conservation-minded citizens who became concerned about the impact of soaring residential and commercial development in parts of Jefferson County. Inspired by the region’s beautiful scenery, they sought a practical way to protect the wetlands, shorelines, farmlands, and forests of Jefferson County Washington for present and future generations. Today the Land Trust serves its mission of working with the community to preserve open space, working lands and habitat forever by working with private landowners, public agencies, partner organizations, and the local community to permanently protect land and water in Jefferson County with high conservation values, such as wetlands, floodplains, forests, farmlands, wildlife corridors, and scenic areas.
