About Us

Set on a beautiful 650 acre farm in the Green Mountains of central Vermont, Spring Lake Ranch (SLR or “the Ranch”) is a non-profit therapeutic community dedicated to empowering its clients, men and women who struggle with mental illness, substance abuse, and emotional difficulties, to achieve the highest quality of life. Founded in 1932, life at the Ranch is deeply rooted in the principle of engaging in community and is structured by a practical, farm-based work program in which all residents and staff honor the value of each day’s work as an expression of each member’s contribution to the community. Thirty residents serve on work crews led by full time Ranch staff performing ongoing, seasonally-driven projects in the Ranch’s gardens, barns, repair shops, sugar house, green house, woods and lake. Residents live in houses on the grounds and are supported by a network of staff and resources geared towards helping them set and work towards goals, address issues and participate in organization-wide meetings and activities.

As individuals are ready to move to a more independent lifestyle, they may join the Aftercare program in nearby Rutland, VT. At this time, approximately forty individuals are supported through transitional and long-term services which help clients develop the skills to live and work more independently.

At Spring Lake Ranch, because we recognize that life is open-ended and unpredictable, we accept vulnerability and live in hope. For more information, visit www.springlakeranch.org.
