American Friends of Combatants for Peace

American Friends of Combatants for Peace (AFCFP) is a diverse community of U.S. and international activists advancing the nonviolent work of collective liberation in Palestine and Israel. We act in solidarity with Combatants for Peace (CfP), a grassroots nonviolent movement of Israelis and Palestinians working together to end the occupation and build a future rooted in peace, equality, and freedom.

AFCFP raises awareness and resources, builds community, and takes nonviolent direct action to advance a just peace in Israel and Palestine. We believe in a world where all people live with dignity, justice, and liberty.

In 2006, Israelis and Palestinians born into conflict and formerly facing one another as sworn enemies chose to do the unimaginable.

A small group of former enemy combatants—Israeli soldiers from elite military units and Palestinian fighters, many of whom had spent years in Israeli prisons—began meeting in secret to challenge their fate and the violent status quo.

Through these courageous encounters, a transformational journey began to unfold. These combatants once committed to armed struggle laid down their weapons and joined forces to nonviolently co-resist the occupation, leading to the creation of Combatants for Peace (CfP). Today, the movement includes former fighters, refuseniks, and nonviolent activists committed to co-creating a just peace.

American Friends of Combatants for Peace (AFCFP) was founded in 2014 as the U.S.-based partner of CfP. Over the past decade, AFCFP has grown into an international community of activists, educators, and advocates working to expand awareness, build solidarity, and support nonviolent movements for justice and peace. Through education, community-building, public engagement, and grantmaking, AFCFP helps cultivate a global movement committed to collective liberation, human dignity, and a just future for all.

Our programs create an international ecosystem of education, activism, and solidarity. Through AFCFP’s U.S.-based programs and support of CfP programs in Palestine and Israel, we are cultivating the next generation of nonviolent leaders and connecting a diverse global community committed to just peace, dignity, liberty, and collective liberation.
