The School for Field Studies

For more than 30 years, The School for Field Studies (SFS), an international non-profit academic institution and the United States' largest environmental study abroad program for college undergraduates, has provided fully accredited, college level environmental education and has conducted research to propose sustainable solutions to critical environmental problems for community clients through its five year research plans.

SFS provides hands-on, interdisciplinary education and environmental research in partnership with natural resource dependent communities. Our goals are twofold: to provide students with transformational experiences that assist them in successfully advancing their careers as skilled professionals and globally aware citizens; and to work with local community stakeholders to develop models for sustainable management of their natural resources.

SFS offers a Rainforest Studies program in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a Himalayan Forests, Watersheds, and Rural Livelihoods study abroad program in the Kingdom of Bhutan; a Sustainable Development Studies program in Costa Rica; Wildlife Management Studies and Public Health programs in the East African nations of Kenya and Tanzania; a Tropical Island Biodiversity and Conservation Studies program in Panama, and a Marine Resource Management Studies program in the Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies. The School's headquarters are located in Beverly, Massachusetts.
