  • About Us

Disclaimer: This Idealist group is not officially affiliated with City Year or City Year New York and exists primarily to support the City Year New York Civic Engagement team [Fiscal Year 2013] and their community-based service events.

City Year is an education-based non-profit organization that originated in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 and has since spread to twenty-two cities nationwide and two internation sites for the purpose of supporting students in need and the communities in which they live, learn and play. Young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 dedicate 10 months of service in a school with high need, acting as a coach and tutor in classrooms and after school programming.

To support this work, the Civic Engagement team organizes and leads community service events powered by community members and corporate sponsor employees. These events generate financial support to City Year and provide the communities we serve free beautification projects. Our most in-demand products include:

    - Indoor and outdoor murals: wall murals, hopscotch grids, running tracks

    - Garden construction: garden boxes, planter beds, cold frames

    - Furniture construction: bookshelves, cubbies, tables

    - Youth engagement: environment-themed arts projects, canvas murals

Our role is to find community based organizations that are in need of services that we are able to provide at no cost to our service sites and to meet their needs with professional and quality service. This group and the following postings exist by the individual efforts of members of the FY13 Civic Engagement team.
