Founded in 2008, Cape Ann Art Haven has grown from a
great idea into a thriving community arts organization. Our mission is
to encourage artists of all ages and abilities to develop creativity and
confidence through hands-on learning and collaboration. Cape Ann Art
Haven operates very much with a community service mission. We are the
current stewards of Gloucester’s famous Lobster Trap Tree and painting a
buoy to adorn the Tree has become a holiday tradition for many
families. Our Annual Buoy Auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year
and attracts over 350 people to a family fun night at Cruiseport
Gloucester in the end of January. As much as Cape Ann Art Haven gives
back, we are fortunate to have the support of so many people, agencies,
volunteers and businesses across Cape Ann. Cape Ann Art Haven has two
locations and offers a continuum of programming that serves learners
from kindergarten through adulthood.
Art Haven is our flagship
space on Main Street in downtown Gloucester. Art Haven offers year-round
after-school classes, primarily in the visual arts and ceramics, to
children in grades 1 – 8. It also offers dynamic art programing for
February and April school breaks and 10-weeks of themed programming in
the summer. Art Haven has a long standing policy of allowing any child
to attend a class regardless of their ability to pay.
In 2012,
Cape Ann Art Haven took over a 4,000 vacant store front around the
corner from Art Haven and transformed it into The Hive Community Center.
The Hive offers adult classes, houses the Teen Artist Guild, or TAG, as
well as a gallery and event space. Many community organizations and
nonprofits use The Hive as their home.
