OUR MISSION: * To network with individuals and other reputable non-profit organizations to intercept horses and ponies in danger of being shipped to Mexico to be inhumanely destroyed * To take these animals into our care or that of a fellow rescue for rehabilitation and retraining * To ultimately match them with approved homes where they will be forever loved and honored * To assist adopters with quarantine and transportation resources * To increase public awareness of the current U.S. slaughter statistics and laws, the industries that profit from them, and how each one of us can arm ourselves with knowledge and make our voices heard

• Mare's Legacy Equine Rescue is dedicated to saving horses and other equines who are on the brink of a tragic ending that no human or animal deserves. The rescue itself is the culmination of a lifetime of taking in all kinds of animals in desperate situations, now with a primary focus on ending the all too common cycle in our country, where horses are often viewed as disposable.

Our inspiration and name come from a true legacy, Marilyn Gatlin. A brilliant and passionate woman, Marilyn devoted her entire life - nine decades - to giving freely in service to others. As the founder of several non-profits in the fields of education, grief support, and personal wellness, she never stopped uplifting people, bringing joy and healing into their lives. Our "second chance" horses uplift those whose lives they touch, and bring countless blessings to those who reach out to them with love. We strive to honor our "Mare" - as she was known to many - just as she imbues her love in every horse we are able to give a second chance.

We take these animals into our care for rehabilitation and retraining. They will be matched with approved homes where they will be forever loved and honored.
